Overview

The Sailfin Tang, also known as Pacific Sailfin Tang, has an oval body shape with several rich, distinctive bold markings. It is brown in color with light freckles on the nose. The body has five, vertical yellow stripes with intricate markings within each stripe. Its tail begins with bright yellow ending with blue highlights. Its appearance can practically double in size at will by raising or lowering its tall dorsal and anal fins.

A 180 gallon or larger aquarium is necessary to provide plenty of swimming room. It is aggressive towards its own species and conspecifics at times, but peaceful towards other fish in the tank. Introduce like species at once.

Although Tangs will eat meaty foods along with the other fish in the aquarium, it is important that they are offered plenty of marine based seaweed and algae. This will strengthen their immune system, reduce aggression and improve their overall health. Offer dried seaweed tied to a rock or use a veggie clip, and feed at least 3 times per week. Sea Veggies, Seaweed Salad and Ocean Nutrition are all ideal products and are very easy to use.

Customer Testimonials

My husband is not a saltwater fan, due to all the algae that grows in the tank. After buying this fish, though, he has really taken a liking to the whole idea of investing in this hobby because the Sailfin Tang eats everything in the tank. Things that grow on the glass are very annoying to us because we have to clean more often than we care to. Since we bought this wonderful fish, we do less cleaning. Everyone should own one. They are also very delicate and very beautiful to sit and watch.

This fish is a wonderful addition to our tank. It is very colorful and is very relaxing to watch. If this is your first time having a tang this tang is right for you!!!

Very pretty fish to have doesn't bother any corals and will defend itself. A great fish to own if you have a larger tank.

I've owned a few tangs and so far this one is the easiest to please, even eats flake food but really loves algae and dried seaweed. Mine has a lot more yellow in it than the picture shows. I think he likes to people watch! Not shy at all and extremely healthy! Thank you for this very cute addition to my 125 gallon reef!

I have a 55 gallon and he does great. He lives peacefully with my Marron Clown and Longnose Hawkfish. Also, he does good with my Blue Spotted Blenny. He is a good Tang compared to some others and very easy to take care.

By far I would say that this is the best tang that you could ever buy. It's beautiful, and is extremly easy to take care of. I've had two of these fish and they have never bothered one another or any of my other fish.

I love it! My friend bought one sailfin here for his 5 gallon biocube, and it works amazing. Dont worry, the tang will soon be moved to the 10 gallon nuvo fusion.
