White Widow Tetra (Gymnocorymbus ternetzi)

Overview

A group of White Widow Tetra Gymnocorymbus tetnetzi will make a lively addition to any freshwater tank. Good for beginners because of their easy care level and peaceful temperament, they should be housed in schools. That is easy to accomplish as they only grow to 1.5” in length so can make their home in an aquarium with a 10 gallon capacity. They do best in a well-planted aquarium with plenty of hiding places and moderate lighting. Water temperatures should be maintained in the 72-82° F range, have KH of between 4-8 and pH levels of 6.0-7.5.

A color variation of the popular Black Widow Tetra, this freshwater fish in the Characidae family displays a white opaque color. It also contains a characteristic ‘skirt’ appearance formed by its anal and dorsal fins. Females are usually larger than the males and have a rounder body.

As well as making a good community fish, the White Widow Tetra is not a fussy eater. An omnivore, its diet should include many small foods such as brine shrimp or daphnia, freeze-dried bloodworms and tubifex, micro pellet food, and a high quality flake food.
