Overview

The Gypsy King Tiger Plecostomus, also known as the King Tiger Pleco, comes from the rivers and tributaries of South America. It is tan with dark brown tiger stripes covering the entire body and fins. The eyes are striped to follow the markings on the head. Gypsy King Tiger Plecostomus make good additions to any community aquarium.

Planted aquariums with hearty, fast-growing plants, high aeration, and water movement provide a healthy environment. Rocks and driftwood help to accent a natural habitat and provide hiding spaces to reduce the stress for the Gypsy King Tiger Pleco. A recommended minimum tank of 30 gallons should be provided to house this fish.

The Gypsy King Tiger Plecostomus has not been bred in an aquarium setting and little is known about their breeding habits.

Feeding the Gypsy King Tiger Plecostomus is not difficult due to the fact that it is not a picky eater. Feeding off the bottom of the aquarium, it gets most of its nutrition from left over food and algae. If there is no algae or left over food present, supplement with high quality flake food, sinking carnivore pellets, freeze-dried bloodworms, and tubifex.

I have three of these in my tank and they are very fun to watch play with each other. We have a big ornament in the tank and they all like to climb up the side of it via a wall and then play follow te leader. Of course they were all male but I also got a small fry in their too!
