As a juvenile, the Jewel Damselfish, also known as Jewelfish, is black with sparkling blue dots. As the fish matures, it may turn brown to yellow and have smaller, indistinct spots.It is overly aggressive, and therefore, only one should be kept per tank. An aquarium of 50 gallons or larger provides suitable housing.
The Jewel Damselfish feeds on a variety of meaty items, herbivore preparations, and flaked foods.

My Jewel Damsel hovered over the rocks like a hummingbird over a selection of particularly tasty flowers. At first, it was rather timid, but once it adapted to the tank, it tried to claim the whole thing. It is, in my experience, a very territorial fish. Even though mine never grew to more than 3 inches, I would not recommend this fish for aquariums less than 50 gallons. It is very quick and can harass all inhabitants if the tank is small.
