Overview

The Indian Ocean Lyretail Anthias is also known as the Scalefin. The males have reddish hues, while the females tend to be more orange. They are active and help to draw out shier fish that share the tank with them.

The Indian Ocean Lyretail Anthias does best when kept in a species-specific tank of at least 125-gallons for a group. Males are best kept alone with several females, or singly. The Anthias dwells in the middle of a tank but appreciates the availability of several hiding places.

Anthias species all share the trait of being hermaphroditic. If a dominant male perishes, the largest female of the group will often morph to take its place.

Once acclimated to a new aquarium, anthias do best when fed a varied diet of frozen mysis shrimp, enriched frozen brine shrimp, and over time may eat high-quality flake foods offered in small quantities throughout the day. An attached refugium cultivating copepods and amphipods provides a steady supply of nutritious live food sure to keep this active planktivore content.

Customer Testimonials

Shawn D Murfreesboro , TN
We purchased this fish as a 2" size specimen, along with a Yellow Belly Regal Blue Tang and a Scopas Tang. The anthias arrived, as the other fish as well, in very good shape and acclimated extremely well using the instructions provided in the shipping container. Even in the bag right out of the shipping container, the fish were all doing very well and looked great. He'll eat anything from brine to mysis to bloodworms but doesn't really like and ocean nutrition flake food we bought nor pellets. We've had the new additions to the tank for about 3 weeks now, and everyone is getting along GREAT! And even going to the cleaner shrimp to get cleaned. The male Maldives Lyretail anthias is a great swimmer and almost seems to demand attention when he moves around the tank, although it did take him a few days to shake his shyness of his new surroundings. He is an awesome addition to the tank. Great job Foster and Smith! You've got a customer for life.

A beautiful fish, especially when it's swimming and fins are fully spread. My showcase fish.
Travis P Nashville , TN
Such a beautiful fish. He swims with much royal grace and with his fins spread, you really get the full effect of how beautiful he can be. A much needed fish to any aquarium. Thanks so much Dr. Foster and Smith.
