Overview

The Sunset Guppy is one of the many unique variety of Poecilia reticulata guppy developed through years of careful, selective breeding. This vibrantly-colored fish sports a cheerful, sunny palette from nose to tail with varying shades of yellow coloration with shimmering metallic over tones. Bold orange coloration accentuates the fringes of the tail fin for an exciting burst of color. The Sunset Guppy is sure to add plenty of color and activity to any freshwater community aquarium.

The Sunset Guppy requires an aquarium of at least 10 gallons in size. It is a very peaceful fish and should be housed with tankmates of similar temperament. Though the Sunset Guppy is a hardy fish tolerant of small changes in water parameters, care should be taken to keep water temperature, pH, and nutrient levels in check. The Sunset Guppy makes an excellent fish for beginning hobbyists as it is a hardy and energetic fish that is easy to keep in a freshwater community aquarium.

Guppies are relatively easy to breed even for the beginning aquarists. If you are interested in breeding guppies, the ideal aquarium should have a covering of floating plants and a breeding box to protect the fry. Adults may eat the fry if left to fend for themselves without the breeding box. The fry should be fed brine shrimp, micro food and pulverized flakes.

The Sunset is an omnivore and requires both algae-based foods as well as meaty foods. An algae-based flake food, along with freeze-dried bloodworms, tubifex, and brine shrimp will provide guppies with the proper nutrition.

Customer Testimonials

I think this wonderful fish will be of great interest to you. Especially if your a first time breeder planning to breed them. I started breeding fish not too long ago and it was a sucessful breeding. But because I wasn't there before my guppy dropped, she and her mate ended up eating almost all of them! Luckily I did get there in time to save seven of them. To bad one died from poor health, I now only have six. Today, my baby guppies are alive, active and healthy. I just hope these babies stay alive to have a wonderful life.
