Overview
The Black Back Butterflyfish, also known as the Melannotus Butterflyfish, has a white body with a series of black diagonal stripes on the sides. The fins are yellow and it has a yellow face with a black eye band.
The Black Back Butterflyfish should be the only butterflyfish, unless it has a mate, in a 120 gallon or larger aquarium that has numerous hiding places and plenty of room to swim. This species of Butterflyfish is not considered reef safe.
The Black Back Butterflyfish eats a variety of meaty preparations that should incorporate a vitamin or color enhancing food to keep its colors crisp. It eats soft corals in the wild.
