This fish has an odd personality. Although not agressive to other fish by nipping, it moves into other fishes space and turns on its side which appears to be a sign of territorialness because all the other fish just move away. It is beautiful, hardy, and takes care of all the parasites on my large regal tang who seems to appreciate the service.

I purchased my French from Liveaquaria almost a year ago. If you want to keep the healthy French angelfish in a long term, you MUST provide his own cave in the liverocks. Mine is in-housed with few other large other angelfish in the 400 gallon system. Some angelfish are over 10 years old. So far all co-exists and looks very healthy and happy. None of my angelfish doesn’t do any twitching nor scratching. Recently I came across with the very interesting article about the French angelfish’s behavior in the wild. The scientific research report states that French adults spend as much as 10% of their diurnal time being cleaned. I assume he meant a cleaner shrimp or cleaner wrasse. A few weeks ago I purchased the bluestreak cleaner wrasse from Diver Den and added him into my main system. Next day I found out that all of my angelfish is taking advantage of the cleaning service from the wrasse! Per my observation, it appears that my French is getting the cleaning service from the wrasse more than 30% a day at least. Remember the more your tank is healthy and mature, there should be more bacteria, parasites and all other creatures. I highly recommend you to get a cleaner wrasse if you have the French angelfish.
