Packaged in a breathable bag with a thin film of real ocean water (sand will be damp) to preserve 1,000 times more living bacteria than other preservation methods - no added chemicals or special processing. Ocean Direct aragonite live sand ensures faster, safer initial cycling and better bio-filtration throughout the life of your reef system. Delivers millions of living bacteria per pound, reduces nitrate, enhances buffering for the life of your system, and discourages nuisance algae. Also aids coral growth and resists the precipitation of carbonate minerals. 77% of Original Grade Substrate - Typical Size: 0.25 - 6.5mm. Oolite Substrate - Typical Size: 0.25 - 1.0mm.
Used by the foremost public aquariums, research and government institutions, and professionals worldwide. Proven to reduce nitrates.
- Buffers for the life of the system
- Discourages nuisance algae
- Bio-coated surfaces resist the precipitation of carbonate minerals
- Aids the growth of living corals
- No silica
Do not open bag until you are ready to use it. For best results, use approximately 1 pound of Caribbean Live Sand per gallon of saltwater. Rinsing is not necessary but recommended if you are adding to an established and stocked aquarium.
Directions for use
Place in the bottom of the empty aquarium and reserve the packet of clarifier for later use. Fill aquarium with saltwater. To avoid excessive cloudiness, place empty bag on top of the substrate to minimize churning of the bed. Turn on all aquarium system filtration and circulation. Live rocks or aquarium décor may now be added. Dilute the included packet of clarifier concentrate into a larger volume of water using a clean (not soapy!) jar or other container. Pour into the system slowly in an area of high water flow for maximum dispersion. Clarifier will reposition free-floating bacteria to bio-filtration surfaces and rapidly clear any remaining cloudiness. When water is clear, most invertebrates may be placed in the aquarium. However, gradually introduce fish within the first three weeks, and do not exceed one inch of fish per 5 gallons of water during this time.
Surface area (measured by BET N2 method) = .728m2/g = 3,569 ft 2/lb.
