Overview

The Tricolor Ryukin Goldfish is a beautiful variety of fancy goldfish. You can distinguish this species from other goldfish by its egg-shaped profile. The body of this fish is short and stubby with a rounded belly. The Ryukin also has a large dorsal hump, pointed mouth, and four tail lobes, giving it a stunning appearance. These interesting features make the Ryukin Goldfish stand out amongst other goldfish species.

The Tricolor Ryukin Goldfish, with its brilliant hues of orange, black, and white, is a cold-water fish that requires an aquarium of 30 gallons or more. These fish may also be housed in an outdoor pond of 180 gallons or more. This lively fish will do well in groups and enjoy other fish of the same species. Good tank mates for the Ryukin Goldfish include the Black Moor, Oranda, and Ranchu Goldfish. Highly oxygenated water is essential for these Goldfish as well.

Ryukin Goldfish should be fed a diet of high-quality flake and pellet food. Daily feedings will ensure that your Ryukin Goldfish is receiving a balanced diet. You may also supplement with live or frozen foods such as bloodworms, daphnia, brine shrimp and more.

As with other Goldfish, Ryukin species are diggers and may uproot plants, ruining decorations. They would do best in an aquarium with soft silk plants and substrate with well-rounded river rocks or fine gravel.

Ryukin Goldfish are easy to breed in the right conditions. Breeding often results in up to 1,000 eggs, with fry hatching in five to six days. They should be fed small pieces of live or prepared foods designed for egg-laying fish.
