Overview

Develop your "wet" green thumb with the gorgeous and easier-to-care-for tropical Colorata Water Lily. Unlike many tropical water lilies with exacting growing requirements, the Colorata Water Lily is very forgiving and can reward you with a full season of beautiful blossoms even in less than ideal conditions. The Colorata Water Lily is one of the hardier tropical water lily available on the market and is prized for its compact growth habit and reliable flower production even in cooler temperatures and in partial shade conditions. For these reason, the Colorata Water Lily makes an ideal plant for new water gardeners interested in growing tropical water lilies.

The Colorata Water Lily produces lovely wisteria blue blossoms with showy purple stamens. It is a prolific bloomer that can perfume your pond landscape with its appealing sweet fragrance. Typical of tropical water lilies, the star-shaped flowers of the Colorata Water Lily are held above water for a dramatic presentation. The Colorata Water Lily is a compact tropical water lily excellent for ponds, water gardens, and container water gardens.

Even when it's not in bloom, the Colorata Water Lily provides fantastic visual interest with its ornamental, saucer-like leaves or "pads." The Colorata Water Lily produces beautiful pads that are bright green in coloration. Typical of tropical water lilies, the Colorata Water Lily produces round leaves with textured edges that are slightly ruffled or even jagged. The leaf spread (or the amount of water surface area covered by the leaves) is approximately up to 6 ft providing much needed shade and protection for your pond fish, as well as a potential spawning site for pondlife.

The Colorata Water Lily should be potted in a three-gallon or larger planting container. To help your newly potted water lily establish itself faster in your pond, place the water lily at an initial depth of six inches below the water surface. As the water lily grows, it can be gradually lowered to its ideal depth of 12-18 inches below the water surface. Place your Colorata Water Lily in a sunny location where it will receive up to six or more hours of direct sunlight. However, unlike many other tropical water lilies, the Colorata Water Lily can thrive in varying light conditions and will even bloom in partial shade conditions receiving up to four hour of direct sunlight. Zones 9-11.

LiveAquaria® offers two groups of Water Lilies: Tropical Water Lilies that thrive in plant hardiness zones 9-11 and Hardy Water Lilies that thrive in plant hardiness zones 4-11. Be sure to select water lily varieties the are hardy to your zone to enjoy long-lasting beauty.
