Overview
The Tiger Goby Schismatogobius ampluvinculus, has a white body with four wide transverse brown bands. Their eyes are high and close set, their tongue is bi-lobed, and they have an absence of scales. Tiger Gobies are capable of dramatic color changes and can camouflage themselves to match their environment. Males can be identified because they have longer jaws and slightly larger heads than the females.
This small freshwater fish grows to only 1” at maturity and likes a fast-moving, oxygen-rich environment. They also like to dig, so create a base substrate of gravel, sand, or a mixture of both.
Tiger Gobies can be kept in a community freshwater tank with other small aquaria with peaceful temperaments and similar water requirements.
Algae and other food items growing on or encrusting the rocks in the bottom of the tank are essential food sources that offer beneficial foraging activity. Tiger Gobies are omnivores, so supplement their diet with foods that sink to the bottom of the aquarium such as a high-quality flake food, sinking carnivore pellets and sinking algae wafers.
