Overview
The Green Sea Star Nardoa galatheae is a member of the Ophidiasteridae family and is at home in reef and fish-only aquariums, as large specimen may eat small marine invertebrates. With a characteristic five-armed formation, it is actually a greenish-brown color with a mottled appearance.
Living in shallow rocky reefs in nature, they prefer a sandy, coral rubble substrate with live rock containing algae. As it moves over the surface, it will eat small microbes and other bits of detritus.
The Green Sea Star is not tolerant of sudden changes in oxygen levels, salinity, and pH of the water, and cannot tolerate copper-based medications. The drip acclimation method is highly recommended for all Sea Stars due to their intolerability to changes in water chemistry. It should never be exposed to air while handling.
In the aquarium, supplement their algae diet with dried seaweed or algae pellets and small pieces of clam meat.
