Overview
The Red Fishbone Shrimp Caridina sp is a relatively new species of shrimp that presents in a red color with a white pattern along the upper back resembling a fishbone. It is the result of extensive selective breeding. A small shrimp species, it grows to about 1.25”. For those with experience in keeping shrimp, housing the Red Fishbone Shrimp is more challenging, but worth it due to the spectacular presentation it exhibits.
This peaceful shrimp does well in a freshwater aquarium setup with good filtration and specific water requirements. Utilizing an RO system helps to achieve the water requirements this shrimp needs. Due to these requirements, it is best kept in a species-specific aquarium.
The Red Fishbone Shrimp is an omnivorous member of the Atyidae family that thrives on a varied diet. It naturally feeds on biofilm that forms on rocks and plants, but in the aquarium its diet should be supplemented with high quality flake or pellet shrimp food.
