Overview
The Scolymia Coral is a type of large polyp stony (LPS) coral, often referred to as the Doughnut, Scoly, Artichoke, or Disk Coral. This solitary, round coral typically features a single oral opening at its center, although multiple openings are occasionally observed in certain species. The Bleeding Sour Apple variety of Scolymia Coral is mainly neon green with thin red radial bands and comes in cup, saucer, flat, or dome-like shapes. While it is not a highly aggressive coral, it should be given plenty of space from other corals since it can expand to twice its size during the day.
The Scolymia Coral is easy to care for in a reef aquarium and pairs well with bivalves, as it is often found alongside Tridacna Clams in its natural environment. This coral is a suitable choice for both novice and experienced reef aquarists. It requires moderate lighting and water flow to thrive. To ensure continued health, the water should be supplemented with calcium, strontium, and other trace elements. Its feeding tentacles emerge during the evening, allowing it to consume meaty foods such as micro-plankton or brine shrimp.
