The Blue Dot Naso Tang, also known as the Elongate Unicornfish is an ornate member of the Naso genera that is relatively uncommon in the aquarium trade. Similar in appearance to the Vlamingii Tang (Naso vlamingii), the Blue Dot Naso Tang is beautifully decorated with bright blue dots that cover its entire body. The juvenile Blue Dot Naso Tang has a darker, brown to purple body coloration that gradually changes to a lighter, slate blue coloration as an adult. In addition to the color change, mature Blue Dot Naso Tangs also develop a sleeker, elongate body shape.

As its muscular physique suggests, the Blue Dot Naso Tang is an active swimmer and in the wild inhabits the coastal to outer reef slopes subject to strong currents. The ideal setup is a 360 gallon or larger aquarium with plenty of swimming room and ample rockwork that provides places to hide. Strong filtration to achieve high water quality and active water movement is a must. In addition, the aquarium should have a tight-fitting lid to prevent the fish from jumping out. The Blue Dot Naso Tang may demonstrate territorial aggression towards other Tangs but is peaceful towards other fish and will not harm sessile invertebrates within the reef aquarium.

Although Tangs will eat meaty foods along with the other fish in the aquarium, it is important to remember they are herbivores requiring a diet comprised primarily of marine-based vegetables including seaweed and algae. Offer dried seaweed tied to a rock or use a veggie clip to encourage natural grazing or foraging behavior. Provide a herbivore diet along with vitamin-boosting supplements to help strengthen their immune system, reduce aggression and improve their overall health.
