Overview
The Threadfin or Featherfin Rainbow is one of a few Rainbows in which the males have long threads extending from their dorsal and anal fins. Rainbows are known for their characteristic large eyes, black or silver band that runs through the middle scale rows, deeply forked mouth, and two dorsal fins.
This peaceful Rainbowfish is a schooling fish that does best in a well planted aquarium. Rainbows appreciate a gravel substrate and may intensify their colors against a dark colored gravel.
An egg layer, the Threadfin Rainbow spawns on large clumps of moss. The parents should be removed from the breeding tank before the eggs hatch, usually after seven or eight days. The fry should be fed very small live foods.
Although Threadfin Rainbows have large mouths, their throats tend to be narrow. With this in mind, foods should not be too large. Iriatherina werneri should be fed an omnivore diet of small live foods and prepared foods.

This fish is fun to watch in the tank. It's dorsal fin is usually not visible, but when it encounters other fish of the same size, it quickly raises and lowers the fin in a playful display. These fish are energetic and they stay just beneath the surface of the water most of the time.
